In the late nineties Mark and Larkin Hammond decided to leave the corporate world of restaurants and open a place of their own. They found a restaurant nestled on the edge of a lake near the Blue Ridge Mountains that they purchased and immediately transformed. As much as they enjoyed waterskiing to work, Mark and Larkin quickly developed an even greater passion - growing their restaurant business.
Shortly after opening Larkin’s on the Lake, the business plan took off – they doubled the business at that location and began looking for new horizons.
In 2005, they acquired another restaurant business - an old, dark steakhouse surrounded by vacant land and old buildings. They saw the vision the city of Greenville had for reviving its downtown and Larkin’s on the River was born.
The duo met and hired talented people and developed a first class team that was eager to grow the business. And as that business rapidly grew they also began developing Larkin’s Catering & Events - now the “must have” caterers in the upstate of South Carolina. Brick by brick, they built the foundation for exceptional customer experiences.
Opening a new concept in 2012 the duo again won the community over with Grill Marks, Greenville’s sophisticated burger joint. Grill Marks offers unique gourmet burgers and house-made ice cream hand spun into authentic milkshakes along with an award-winning wine list and edgy craft beers. With the expansion of Grill Marks to the Columbia, SC market in 2015, they have grown to a company making a name for themselves in both North and South Carolina. Their most recent adventure includes a new Italian concept, Limoncello, in downtown Greenville as well as their third Grill Marks location at the Haywood Mall in Greenville - both opened in the Fall of 2017.
